Imaginative Themes Spark Boys’ Decor

by Eric Bash

Imagination is the key when creating themes for decor in a boy’s bedroom. Themes that inspire a boy to see himself as a sports hero, an artist, or the champion of a fable or fantasy give hours of fun and learning.

Eye on the Ball: You really can’t go wrong when you choose a sports theme. Boys like that. Balls are easy to decorate with. They look great in a room with a colorful rug. If your child has a favorite team then this will make it even easier to get the decor right.

Rainbow Bright – If your child loves to express the artist in himself then you will want to help him feel inspired. Try to use colors like gold, blue, green, and other bright colors. For the carpet use bright wild colors. Paint each shelf a different color. The point is to add as much color as you can to the room without going overboard.

Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho: It’s time to walk the plank! Well you can pretend anyway. Create a pirates room for your son. Theme it with “Treasure Island” or “Peter Pan”. You may even want to do “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Paint the walls an ocean blue and add ships selling by. Decorate the inside of the room with treasure chests or big trunks that can be used for toy boxes and more.

A Knight’s tale: If you are gifted with a talent for art then you will love decorating with A Knight’s Tale. You can paint the castle walls and add flying pennants on the walls. Add a blue sky on the ceiling. Read The Tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Roundtable to get your inspiration. Place curtains around his bed to enhance the look.

Do the Locomotion: Grown-ups think of them as merely transportation, but youngsters see trains (and planes and automobiles) as the purveyors of wonder. You can choose a single theme or combine them for an overall transportation look. Most of these designs use bright primary colors, especially for traffic signals and railroad crossings. Some kind of transportation border around the walls works well. Beds shaped like cars, planes and trains are all available.

Do The Locomotion – When your little boy thinks of the phrase “Do the Locomotion” they think of trains, planes, and of course automobiles. There are two different ways to do this theme; a single theme or a combination. You can use a transportation border to go around the top of the room. Ride ‘em, Cowboy – The fun of pretending to be back in the wild, wild west. This theme is a classic and is still popular today. Create curtains by using a red and blue bandana. You can also look for a western themed wallpaper to add to the walls. The wallpaper should have horses, ropes, and of course cowboys. You can purchase a bedside lamp in a boot base.
